Antarctica, the ice-covered continent at the south pole of our world, is covered in mysteries. There are a lot of rumors connected with the island. Some says that aliens and UFO's are hiding underneath the thick ice, others suggests that there are secret military facilities and bases below. Well, here are some mysteries of Antarctica that you might not know yet. Let's start!
LAKE VOSTOK - this fresh water lake has been isolated to this world by thick ice for millions of years. The existence of a sub glacial lake in the Vostok region was first suggested by Russian geographer Andrey Kapitsa based on seismic soundings made during the Soviet Antarctic Expeditions in 1959 & 1964 to measure the thickness of the ice sheet. The Russians have drilled the thick ice cover of this lake and they have succeeded. However, there are stories pertaining to a whistle blower-turned scientist who says to the media that they have fought a
monster below the Lake Vostok and some of his co-workers were killed. Surprisingly, the government of Russia has denied this story and says that they haven't discovered anything on the lake.
14 MILE UNKNOWN STRUCTURE - Google Earth is such a handy web app where you can go to any place that you like without leaving your chair. However, some people are finding things that are so bizarre and out of this world. An example of it is this 14 mile structure buried beneath the frozen terrains of Antarctica. Could this be a secret facility where scientist are conducting research or rather a UFO hiding in the icy shelf of the continent?
PYRAMID OF ANTARCTICA - Ancient civilizations around the world have built Pyramids. These structures have significant importance to their beliefs or religion. Surprisingly, there is also a structure in the freezing lands of this continent that resembles one. The image above is taken from a satellite view and it perfectly matches the ancient pyramid of Egypt. Is this a proof that there were inhabitants or rather there was a civilization that thrived the lands of Antarctica?
ANCIENT CIVILIZATION OF ANTARCTICA - There are theories that suggests about an ancient civilization that lived in Antarctica millions of years ago. There are also suggestion that below the several kilometer ice cover lies an ancient city that will support this theory. Well, to prove this we must first remove the icy shelf that covers the continent.
WHEN WAS ANTARCTICA DISCOVERED? - A group of historians found an amazing map in 1929 that was drawn on a skin of gazelle. They have said that it was a genuine map drawn by Piri Reis, a Turkish Fleet Admiral and a Cartographer. It shows the southern part of South America and of course northern part of Atlantic. On some notes, Piri Reis noted that the map was made based on the other maps that he gathered because of his access to the Imperial Library of Constantinople. However, the bizarre part is this, if that is true, why does his map shows the exact land mass of Antarctica before it was covered in ice? How? Scientist says that the continent was covered in ice for millions of years, so how could he draw an accurate map of the continent before it was covered in ice? Is this an evidence of a highly-advanced civilization that existed thousands of years ago?
